Seaweed Experiments

Seaweed was harvested from 2 beaches (names), luckily my timing was perfect as it was the lowest tides of the year. A variety of types, from kelp (thick & leathery) to water lettuce (paper thin & bright green), were gathered and time spent with each to know how each reacts as it dries and in combination with other materials.

A palette of rusty metal and neon fishing gear, inspired from the local findings, complimented the earth tones of the seaweed and helped to create more dynamic shapes and experiments. Beeswax was also used as a means of preservation and protection.
